This surreal, whimsical composition plays with the absurd ways we construct our identities for the outside world. At its core, the figure is nothing more than a writhing, chaotic mass of segmented, worm-like forms. Yet, this unsettling foundation is carefully masked by cheerful markers of polite society and fashion: floating purple glasses, a bright yellow flower for a face, a formal blue bow tie, and a pink bikini top. By dressing up an inherently grotesque or primal base in brightly colored, mundane accessories, the artwork offers a witty, absurd commentary on the artificial personas we build to make ourselves acceptable to society.
