“The heritage of the past is the seed that brings forth the harvest of the future.” - Wendell Phillips
The Al Fahidi Historical Neighbourhood Dubai (Al Bastakiya) is a prominently preserved heritage neighbourhood reflecting the traditional way of life that prevailed in Dubai decades ago.
The artist uses the traditional marketplace with the sturdy structures of old buildings of Al Fahidi as her inspirational subject, depicting a typical warm afternoon during when the market happening is calm. Modern amenities added onto the uneven structures project the transition towards modernity. The traditional doors are defined in earthly, rustic shades to give them a textured and rugged look. The cloudless sky gives an impression of a typically warm day, when the tints and shadows on the buildings suggests that time of the day when temperature soars and the busyness lulls. The artist adds a flock of pigeons pecking away to create a sort of subtle liveliness around the quietness of the noon.
