This work is an exploration of the architectural elegance and vibrant diversity found within the Gladiolus. Often called the "Sword Lily," these flowers are captured here not just as botanical subjects, but as symbols of strength, integrity, and the upward pull of nature.
The composition centers on the rhythmic, vertical stacking of blooms, where each petal is rendered with thick, tactile brushstrokes. By utilizing a rich impasto technique, I sought to give the flowers a three-dimensional presence that mimics their heavy, velvety reality in the garden. The color palette—ranging from the purity of white and soft peach to the dramatic weight of burgundy—serves as a visual celebration of summer’s peak.
The flowers stand out against the dark, mossy green background as if they are glowing. This contrast shows the beauty of delicate petals growing from the rough, wild earth. It is a painting that asks you to stop and enjoy the bright, strong energy of flowers in full bloom.
